Exclusive research conducted by Momentum Intelligence, in partnership with Lawyers Weekly, has uncovered the firms deemed most attractive to Australian lawyers, with varied results across the board.
Momentum Intelligence, in partnership with Lawyers Weekly, has just produced the fourth annual Legal Firm of Choice Report, providing an insight into the recruitment market and determining what internal and external factors make lawyers want to switch firms.
In addition to uncovering key market trends and those employers who are most appealing to external lawyers on a nationwide basis, the report also offers a greater look into the perspective of legal professionals from each state, including which law firms are deemed the most attractive in their area.
In NSW, the top five attraction firms have been identified as Herbert Smith Freehills, followed by King & Wood Mallesons, HWL Ebsworth, Allens and MinterEllison.
In Victoria, Herbert Smith Freehills again took out the top spot. Lander & Rogers was ranked as the second most attractive law firm in Victoria, followed by MinterEllison, Allens and King & Wood Mallesons.
In Queensland, the mid-tiers dominated with HopgoodGanim Lawyers ranking number one and McCullough Robertson as number two. They were followed by Allens, Corrs Chambers Westgarth and Mills Oakely.
In Western Australia, Allen & Overy and Clyde & Co were tied as the most attractive law firm, followed by Hall & Wilcox, Herbert Smith Freehills and Clayton Utz.
Lastly, in the ACT and South Australia, Clayton Utz and HWL Ebsworth were tied for the top spot, followed by Allens, Corrs Chambers Westgarth and Deloitte Legal.
The Legal Firm of Choice Report also provides insight into the annual Top 25 Attraction Firms ranking, which was revealed last week.
The ranking is formulated from one question within the Legal Firm of Choice Survey: ‘Which Australian legal firms are most attractive to legal professionals if they were to switch?’ Respondents were allowed to select more than one firm.
Unlike years’ past, 2018’s Top 25 list features 26 firms, due to tied rankings.
In a profession where market perception can be the final determinant between attracting staff and turning them off, it has become vital for firms to place an added emphasis on how employees are treated, with the list below revealing who appears to be succeeding at that.
While these results are based on the opinion of external lawyers, they represent a unique opportunity for firms to see where they stand in the national legal market, what they can do to improve and how they can continue to excel.
